An augmentative communication device is any device that helps a person communicate. Medicare began covering these devices in 2002 . Those who lack the ability to speak or whose speech is impaired can have a computer speak for them. The device should allow the user to communicate basic needs, carry on conversations, work with a computer, and complete assignments for work or school.
