Answer to Question 1

Telepharmacy promises to be especially helpful in rural areas and underserved urban neighborhoods where there is no accessible local pharmacy. Using a telepharmacy connection can mean that the patient walks out of the doctor's office with the medication in hand, having already teleconsulted with the pharmacist; neither patient nor pharmacist has to travel. It could prove to be particularly beneficial to populations who cannot travel easily. The elderly, for example, have a poor drug compliance recorddue in part to their difficulty traveling. There are several other advantages to telepharmacy. A telepharmacy does not need to fill as many prescriptions as a conventional pharmacy to be cost-effective. In addition, entering prescriptions directly into a computer may cut down on dispensing errors caused by illegible handwriting.
