Typical operating systems will likely be Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Mac O/S; typical application software might include Word, Quicken, Excel, Microsoft Works, and Outlook. The point to the exercise is that after reading this chapter the student can distinguish between the operating system and application software.
