Answer to Question 1

Automated endoscopic system for optimal positioning (AESOP), which was introduced in 1994 by Computer Motion, Inc., is the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)cleared surgical robot. Originally developed for the space program, AESOP is now used as an assistant in endoscopic procedures. It holds and moves the endoscope under the direction of the surgeon. AESOP was first developed to be controlled by foot pedals. Currently, however, it responds to voice commands.
