Name and discuss five measurable characteristics of variables in content analysis.
 
  What will be an ideal response?

An experiment was designed to test the effects of rehearsal on memory. In order to hold the extraneous variable time of day constant, the experimenter decides to run two groups simultaneously.
 
  The rehearsal group is given the instructions live and the other non-rehearsal group sees the same instructions in the next room via closed-circuit television. Live-versus-television is

Answer to Question 1

Direction - note the positive/support or negative/oppose direction of messages in the text.
Frequency - count whether something occurs in the text and how often. Intensity - measure the strength of a variable. Space - measure the size, volume and amount of time or physical space.
Prominence - where does the measure get the most attention.
