Edward associated physical education class with a temporary lack of oxygensomething that frightened him. Lack of oxygen was the UCS; being afraid as a result was the UCR. Physical education class and the boy who ran into him were associated with the lack of oxygen; hence they were CSs. Fearing physical education class and fearing the boy became CRs.
