Answer to Question 1

Surface water is more easily accessible. Power plants are often located next to surface
water reservoirs in the western U.S. or near large rivers in the eastern U.S., because they
can easily pump out the water.

Answer to Question 2

Surface water supplies the most water. It is usually less expensive, available in larger
quantities, and meets the lower purity needs of industrial use. Some industries can even
use saltwater.
