Answer to Question 1

Valley glaciers, also called alpine glaciers, occupy mountain valleys and flow by gravity slowly downslope. Ice sheets exist at the poles and on a much larger scale than valley glaciers. They flow out in all directions from their snow-accumulation centers. Ice caps occur in some uplands and plateaus. They are like ice sheets but on a much smaller scale. Piedmont glaciers occupy broad lowlands at the bases of steep mountains and form where one or more valley glaciers emerge from the mountains and spread out to form a sheet. Outlet glaciers are fed by ice caps and ice sheets. They are tongues of ice that flow down valleys like valley glaciers; however, they are conduits for ice caps and ice sheets to flow through mountainous regions to the sea.
