Answer to Question 1

Southeast Asia developed commercial sex around U.S. military bases during the Cold War. It further expanded into large cities and became part of a larger sex trade with global criminal dimensions and exploitation of under-aged girls. Sex tourism is another component as wealthy travelers from the west came to Thailand with that aspect in mind.
