political and economic changes; the uncertainties that these changes will bring; a greater
awareness of Western consumer culture; recognition of social and health conditions, including
domestic violence and alcoholism; a mixture of positive and negative economic conditions, such
as housing shortages and reduced employment opportunities, offset by growth in some sectors.
