The southern part of Sub-Saharan Africa is the area where wildlife conservation has been most effective. West Africa has few areas of prime habitat remaining. A worldwide ban on the trade of ivory has helped to ease the threat to elephants. Also, political leaders in Africa are becoming more vocal in their support of wildlife.
