Answer to Question 1

In addition to earning a bachelor's degree, in order to become a licensed teacher, all teacher candidates will be required to pass a licensure exam. After passing the exam, licensed teachers will experience ongoing evaluation that commonly includes both classroom observation and students' performance on standardized tests.

Answer to Question 2

First, critics of the Common Core argue that the standards represent federal overreach and an attempt to establish a national curriculum. Second, many Americans have never heard of the Common Core, and most of those who have heard of the Common Core neither understand nor embrace the standards. On the other hand, supporters point out that the CCSSI is not a federal program; it originated in the states, where the standards were developed by governors and state school officials. Further, the standards aren't a mandate and they don't prescribe curriculum. Also, most professional and business groups endorse the standards.
