If you were surveying hillside property on which you planned to build a home, what is some of the
  evidence of former mass wasting you would look for? What will be an ideal response?

Answer to Question 1

You should look for evidence of former landslides, such as scarps, open fissures, displaced or tilted
objects, and sudden changes in vegetation



Answer to Question 2

Methods include: installing subsurface drainage, diversion of surface waters, reducing the slope by
cut-and-fill or benching, constructing retaining walls, and planting vegetation.
