The countries of Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, Rwanda, Sudan, Mozambique, Angola, and Congo have experienced famine in the 1990s due to conflict. North Korea has also experienced famine recently due to drought and the failure of centrally planned agriculture.
Severe hunger is also the result of famine and drought. People throughout most of Africa, North Korea, Haiti, and Bangladesh are suffering from severe hunger.
Chronic malnutrition occurs with an improper diet, which can happen because of a lack of availability of food or because of an improper diet. This is a significant problem in India, Bangladesh, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Pakistan, and China.
