Answer to Question 1

Sewage from individual homes may be handled using a septic system with a leaching field. (O)n-site systems frequently fail, resulting in unpleasant sewage backup into homes and pollution of groundwater and surface water.

Answer to Question 2

1) California is a major produce resource for the United States and those crops require large amounts of water to thrive. 2) California receives most of the water it uses from long distances via irrigation. 3) Other water is pumped from wells that are not replaced anywhere near as quickly as the water is being removed.
