Answer to Question 1

Answer: Both are fast-moving mass-wasting events. Both require some water, though debris flow needs more water than earthflows. Earthflows are composed of fine-grained materials whereas debris flows contain a variety of particle sizes. Earthflows, depending on the water available, tend to be more viscous than debris flows and move more slowly.
