Answer to Question 1

The immature soils with weakly developed horizons occur where the landscape is unstable and erosion removes any regolith before it chemically weathers into soil. These soils are most obvious in mountainous areas where erosion rates are high and along large-river floodplains where deposition rates are high. Immature soils also occur on areas that continually get fresh deposits of sediment or volcanic material (lava or ash).

The calcium is delivered by the wind as dust particles and in rainfall.
