Answer to Question 1

CO2 and water creates carbonic acid (Equation 5.3), which contributes to weathering because it is weakly acidic.

Answer to Question 2

Weathering is the breakdown of rock at Earth's surface. Erosion is the physical transport of weathered material from its source, such as by wind or water. Deposition is the accumulation of weathered sediment. Lithification is the conversion of the deposited sediment into rock, primarily through the processes of compaction and cementation.
