Answer: Erosion from glaciers, and sedimentary deposition from glaciers, left behind in the rock record.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Runoff from mountains within and marginal to the Great Basin flowed into the adjacent valleys, evaporated in the summer, and left behind a dusty and salty playa.
