In these studies episodic hypotension and cardiac dysrhythmias were associated with a rapid decrease in Paco2 and the corresponding respiratory alkalosis. Overventilation of the patient would induce a respiratory alkalosis. Therefore the therapist must be concerned with not hyperventilating the patient.
