Answer to Question 1

ANS: C
All ventilator-assisted individuals (VAIs) require a self-inflating manual resuscitator. Patients who are totally dependent on a ventilator and use a wheelchair need a transport ventilator for their wheelchair and as a backup ventilator. This patient does not require oxygen; therefore, an oxygen cylinder is not necessary. VAIs should have at least three ventilator circuits in their homes.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: B
For the first 2 years of life, ventilator-assisted infants should be evaluated in the hospital every 2-3 months; the ventilator requirements of infants and children change because of their growth and development.
