Answer to Question 1

ANS: C
In a spring-loaded bellows model, an adjustable spring atop a bellows applies a force per unit ar-ea, or pressure (P = Force/area). Tightening of the spring creates greater force and therefore greater pressure. The bellows contains pre-blended gas (air and oxygen), which is administered to the patient.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: A
The rotary drive piston creates a flow pattern that is slow at the beginning of inspiration, achieves highest speed at mid-inspiration, and tapers off at end-inspiration, creating a sinusoidal wave-form (sine waveform).

Did you know?

Although the Roman numeral for the number 4 has always been taught to have been "IV," according to historians, the ancient Romans probably used "IIII" most of the time. This is partially backed up by the fact that early grandfather clocks displayed IIII for the number 4 instead of IV. Early clockmakers apparently thought that the IIII balanced out the VIII (used for the number 8) on the clock face and that it just looked better.
