Answer to Question 1

ANS: B
A better solution is a letter, phrase, or picture board. These devices allow patients to communi-cate by simple pointing. Large and simple drawings are particularly important for patients who cannot clearly see print. For conscious patients with a long-term tracheostomy and ventilator de-pendent, communication can be enhanced with a talking tracheostomy tube (Figure 36-29).

Answer to Question 2

ANS: D
As indicated in Box 36-7, there are several reasons why tracheal tubes increase the incidence of pulmonary infection.

There are major differences in the metabolism of morphine and the illegal drug heroin. Morphine mostly produces its CNS effects through m-receptors, and at k- and d-receptors. Heroin has a slight affinity for opiate receptors. Most of its actions are due to metabolism to active metabolites (6-acetylmorphine, morphine, and morphine-6-glucuronide).
