Depression is a common finding in patients with central sleep apnea. Patients with central sleep apnea do not normally report insomnia and hypersomnolence and typically have a normal body habitus.

For children, it has been suggested that PETCO2 values of greater than 45 mm Hg for at least 60 of the total sleep time or PETCO2 values greater than 13 mm Hg above baseline values indicate sleep-disordered breathing.
