It is important to confirm that there is complete exhalation of the delivered tidal volume. PEEP is not usually needed with the MAS patient. All patients receiving mechanical ventilation should be given a fully humidified tidal volume. Follow the oxygen therapy protocol to guide delivery of the necessary oxygen percentage. More than 50 oxygen may be needed until the infant's airways are open.
