Obstructive sleep apnea is associated with insomnia, excessive daytime sleepiness, and other signs and symptoms. Hypothyroidism and other clinical disorders are associated with central sleep apnea. Metabolic alkalosis is not associated with obstructive sleep apnea.

A newborn with a CDH will have diminished breath sounds and heart sounds on the right side of the chest. A scaphoid abdomen is seen when the stomach and intestines have moved into the thoracic cavity.
