The person with PTDS has been exposed to a traumatic event in which the response was intense fear or helplessness. Symptoms of PTSD include recurrent and intrusive flashbacks to, or dreams of, the event; insomnia, inability to concentrate, persistent avoidance of stimuli associated with the event, and/or inability to recall all or part of it. The person often exhibits symptomssuch as hypervigilance, paranoia, exaggerated startle response, and irritabilitythat were not present before the trauma. Schizophrenia is a group of psychotic disorders that have two or more of the following: delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, grossly disorganized behavior, and/or catatonia stupor, muscle rigidity, withdrawal, isolation, and a flat effect.
