Bilirubin present in the urine signifies liver dysfunction, biliary obstruction, or hepatitis. Abnormal pH reflects gout, glycosuria and ketonuria are present with diabetes, and hemoglobinuria or hematuria is present with calculi.

During an electroretinogram, a contact lens containing the electrode (measuring device) is placed on the eye. The client's head is under a cone, and much of the test is done while the room is dark. Radiopaque dye is injected before a retinal angiogram and a slit lamp is a special type of microscope that directs a beam of light onto or through the cornea to view the eye's anterior structures.
