Answer to Question 1

B
Feedback:
Back pain may be caused by abnormal or exaggerated curvature of the vertebral column. Lordosis (swayback) is an abnormal curvature of lumbar vertebrae. Kyphosis (humpback or hunchback) is an abnormal curvature of the thoracic spine. Scoliosis is a lateral (side-to-side) angulation of the spinal column. Spinal stenosis is the narrowing of the intervertebral space.

Answer to Question 2

C
Feedback:
Before starting any steroid therapy, the client and family should be educated about the side effects of steroid therapy and the importance of proper administration of prescribed medications. The nurse should educate the client and family that thrombophlebitis is a possible serious side effect of prolonged steroid therapy. Hypertension, subsequent weight gain, and increased appetite, and not hypotension, weight loss, or decreased appetite, may result from prolonged steroid therapy.
