Answer to Question 1

B
Feedback:
The nurse should mix the powder in at least 120 mL of orange juice or citrus drink to mask the taste and dosage of the drug. Methadone doses are highly individualized, but an average daily dose is 20 to 120 mg, not 200 mg. The nurse ensures regular supervised urine specimens, not blood samples, are analyzed for the presence of opiates, barbiturates, or other drugs while using methadone. The nurse need not prevent the client from interacting with others; methadone maintenance programs require the client to participate in some form of group therapy to help the person find new ways of problem solving in a drug-free environment.

Answer to Question 2

A, D, F
Feedback:
An ultrasound scan can determine gestational age, fetal head size, location of the placenta, and some fetal abnormalities. It can identify multiple pregnancies and, in some cases, it can also determine the sex of the fetus. The oxytocin challenge test (OCT) provides information on how well the placenta is supplying oxygen to the fetus. The nonstress test (NST) provides information on the fetal heart rate in response to fetal activity. Maternal serum a-fetoprotein (MSAFP) levels are increasingly used as a screening tool to detect the presence of fetal neural tube defects and open abdominal wall defects early in pregnancy.
