The purpose of a sitz bath (sitting in a tub of warm water) is to provide moist heat to the pelvic, perineal, and/or perianal area. Sitz baths are most often used following infant delivery or rectal/perineal surgery. Heat applications may be contraindicated in clients with known cardiac conditions or those taking certain cardiac medications or antihypertensives.
