mediolateral

Rationale: With fingers and toes, the medial and lateral surfaces are referenced from anatomical position. In order to keep the 2nd digit close to the image receptor, the hand and finger are rotated medially, placing the lateral surface in contact with the image receptor, therefore creating a mediolateral projection.
