Which positioning maneuver should be applied to the lateral lumbar spine to promote opening of the intervertebral disk spaces?
 
 provide support under the patient's knees
  have patient fully extend legs

Rationale: In order to image the intervertebral disk spaces open, the lumbar spine must be positioned parallel to the image receptor to allow the divergent beam to pass through the disk spaces.

Answer to Question 2

anatomic programmed radiography

Rationale: APR systems are programmed to have exposure factors configured for the anatomic parts and the specific projection selected.
