Answer to Question 1

This Protestant group emphasizes five distinct doctrines: The Sabbath celebrated on the seventh day (Saturday), The Remnant (The Adventist group has been the group that kept the commandments of God and seeks to spread of Word), the Sanctuary (a literal place in Heaven where Jesus reviews the records of the dead to determine who should be allowed in heaven), the Investigative Judgment (the process by which Jesus reviews the living to see if they should be allowed in Heaven), the Health Message (emphasis on specific dietary practices to prepare the body for heaven). The group tends to be separatist with the exception of evangelism efforts.

Answer to Question 2

In addition to the basic beliefs accepted by the general Baptist tradition, the Baptist church within the African American tradition has been an important means for empowerment in the face of oppression. God is viewed as more powerful than the oppressor and the church has traditionally been a source of group as well as personal empowerment.
