ANS: D
Cartilage is a smooth firm connective tissue that cushions most articular surfaces at the end of bones. It does not have a direct blood supply and is devoid of nerves and lymphatics. It has a high water content which is supplied by the synovial fluid.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: B
Open reduction exposes the fracture site for realignment; the fracture is reduced to align fragments; an internal fixation device stabilizes the fracture.
