In order to destroy prions, such as those in Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, how long must they be sterilized?

Prions are an infectious protein that must be steam sterilized for a minimum of 1 hour at 270 F after soaking in sodium hydroxide at room temperature for 1 hour. If a prevacuum sterilizer is used, the item can be processed for 18 minutes at 274 F after soaking for 1 hour in sodium hydroxide.

When steam enters the sterilizer chamber, it condenses on cold items, heats up all the items, and wets them, providing the needed requisites, moisture and heat.
