Type 1, or insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM), occurs when the pancreas produces little or no insulin and regular insulin injections are needed. Onset may be at any age but usually occurs in juvenile's ages 12 to 16, and adults up to age 40.

Using sterile water to irrigate causes the destruction of cancerous cells by crenation.
