Answer to Question 1

Restraint is very important when rectally examining a horse because the rectum is vulnerable
to perforation by the palpator. Perforation of the rectum will require emergency surgery or
treatment and may result in the death of the animal.

Answer to Question 2

Transabdominal ultrasound is most often used to diagnose pregnancy in sheep, goats, llamas,
and pigs. It may also be used on small ponies or miniature horses.
