Answer to Question 1

C
Humor is most effective with clients who have strong rapport and request it. Humor is inappropriate with individuals who are deeply grieving or in distress or for those clients who want to avoid facing reality. Care should be taken when using humor with individuals who are culturally different from the nurse because the message may be misinterpreted.

Answer to Question 2

B
Identifying signs of drug and alcohol withdrawal are one of the most important assessment skills for a nurse practicing in prison, for several reasons. One reason is that due to the high correlation between substance abuse and incarceration, there is a stronger likelihood of an inmate, particularly one who has just been arrested, entering a detention facility under the influence. In such cases, the inmate's withdrawal must be monitored and managed by the nurse to asses the need for additional treatment. Another reason is that being under the influence of drugs or alcohol is one of the leading indicators for attempted and completed suicides in detention facilities.
