Answer to Question 1

C
The Epidemiologic Catchment Area Study was the landmark project undertaken to investigate the prevalence of major psychiatric diagnoses. This study was an outgrowth of the President's Commission, which required that the definition of mental disorders be sufficiently standardized so that information collected was equivalent and comparable regardless of in which city or state it was collected.
