Answer to Question 2

C
According to the principles of cognitive-behavioral therapy, irrational thinking is the factor that causes depression. In depression, one's negative thoughts and negativity are often irrational or distorted or bear little relationship to reality. Cognitive-behavioral therapy focuses on assisting the client to develop more positive thoughts and feelings. For example, a depressed client may have a very negative self-concept. The therapist may give the client a homework assignment to keep a journal about the times and situations when those negative thoughts occur.
