Answer to Question 1

Ans: C
Feedback:
A maturational (developmental) crisis results from normal life events that cause stress. Erik Erikson (1963) identified specific developmental periods when anxiety or stress normally increases and can precipitate a maturational crisis. Events for adults that might precipitate maturational crises include getting married, becoming a parent or grandparent, and retiring. A situational crisis is a response to a sudden and unavoidable traumatic event that largely affects a person's identity and roles. An adventitious crisis is an outside external event that causes trauma and disruption, usually to many people.

Answer to Question 2

Ans: D
Feedback:
Nurses ask clients in crisis if they are having thoughts of hurting themselves. Most clients do not volunteer this information but, when asked, readily discuss suicidal thoughts (Aguilera, 1998; ANA et al., 2007; Hoff, 2001; RNAO, 2006). In fact, many people who commit suicide have seen a health care provider shortly before their death (Repper, 1999). Therefore, when clients arrive in any health care settingemergency departments, primary care centers, hotlines, nurses ask about suicidal ideation (Repper, 1999).
