Answer to Question 1

ANS: 1
While options 2 and 3 can result from alcohol abuse, blackouts occur when alcohol is consumed to the extent that the substance interferes with the acquisition and storage of new memories in the brain. Option 4 is incorrect as blackouts do actually occur.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: 3
New friends (option 1) do not indicate a problem. With substance abuse, impaired academic per-formance may occur, not improved (option 2). Option 4 is incorrect as headaches do not neces-sarily indicate substance abuse. Moodiness (option 3) can be indicative of substance abuse.
