Answer to Question 1

ANS: 3
Identifying feelings of sadness related to loss of the relationship will help him understand the meaning of the relationship and resolve the depression. This is the priority. The other options are of lesser importance at this time.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: 1
Mahler's theory of object relations suggests that the child at this age has a beginning sense of ob-ject constancy and can use a representation of the mother for comfort. The child may use a blan-ket or other object to remind himself of the mother. The other theories mentioned are not as clearly related as Mahler's.

There can actually be a 25-hour time difference between certain locations in the world. The International Date Line passes between the islands of Samoa and American Samoa. It is not a straight line, but "zig-zags" around various island chains. Therefore, Samoa and nearby islands have one date, while American Samoa and nearby islands are one day behind. Daylight saving time is used in some islands, but not in others—further shifting the hours out of sync with natural time.
