Answer to Question 1

a. Graphics should tell a simple story. Readers should be able to read the graphic at a glance.
b. Graphics should reinforce the written text, not replace it. Graphics should always accompany a written text. The graphics should not be needed to explain something; they should be there to repeat something in the written text.
c. A graphic should be presented in an ethical manner. Graphics should never be used as an attempt to hide or distort data.
d. A graphic should be properly labeled and placed on the page. Graphics should be labeled in simple and clear ways, and the graphic should appear on the page where its accompanying text appears.
