Answer to Question 1

Guinea pigs are very sensitive to antibiotics. Many commonly used antibiotics are toxic to cavies. Indiscriminate use of antibiotics is toxic to them. Antibiotic use needs to be carefully monitored for signs of toxicity.

Answer to Question 2

Occurs during the last two week of pregnancy or the first week's post-partum. Sows become weak, depressed, ataxic, and have difficulty breathing (dyspnea). Toxins in the blood can cause seizures and death.
