Answer to Question 1

The NOSB is composed of representatives from these seven categories:

1 . Farmer/grower
2 . Handler/processor
3 . Retailer
4 . Consumer/public interest
5 . Environmentalist
6 . Scientist
7 . Certifying agent

Answer to Question 2

For agricultural products to be certified as organic by the USDA, first certifying agents will review the application from the farmer or processor for certification eligibility, and then qualified inspectors conduct annual onsite inspections of the operation. If the farmer or processor meets the minimum eligibility standards, they can receive the USDA certified organic certification.
