Answer to Question 2

Italians are by far the most common bee in the United States. They are very gentle and produce large amounts of honey. Carniolans, which originated in the Alps, are dark bees that are among the most gentle. They have a reputation for building colonies very quickly in the spring. The grayish Caucasians have a reputation for building up large amounts of propolis. German or German Black bees produce large amounts of honey but are too aggressive for most beekeepers. Russian bees are relatively new to the United States, but with their parasite resistance they are hoped to help solve some of the serious problems producers have with parasitic mites.
