Fish are ectothermic animals that do not require a large portion of their nutrient intake to maintain body temperature. Their bodies adjust to the temperature of their environment, so their body temperature is regulated by the surroundings. Also, the natural buoyancy of their bodies in the water helps fish move and gives their body support. Therefore, they use less energy to move.
