Answer to Question 1

The control measures taken to reduce the spread of avian influenza include:

1 . Culling of infected poultry
2 . Sanitation of poultry facilities
3 . Preventing the poultry products being consumed by the public

Answer to Question 2

Avian influenza can be transmitted from animals to humans:

1 . Directly from birds or from avian virus-contaminated environments to people
2 . Through an intermediate host, such as a pig
